Thanda Royal Zulu FC’s coaches
learn from Manchester City
Roger Palmgren and Johan Eriksson, the coaches of Thanda Royal Zulu FC in Durban, are travelling to Manchester, England, to learn from Manchester City’s successes. The study visit is a consequence of the cooperation agreement signed by the two clubs in November 2007.
Thanda Royal Zulu FC is a South African Premier Soccer League team that is investing heavily in the future. The study visit to Manchester is interesting in several respects.
Johan Glennmo, Chairman of Thanda, says:
“Manchester City is one of the English Premier League’s leading clubs. Our coaching team, Roger Palmgren and Johan Eriksson, will be on the spot to study how Manchester City runs its player development programme and ensures the new generation of talent through its Academy. City also has functions known as performance analysts, who create player profiles, for example in connection with newly acquired players. Overall, Thanda can learn a great deal from Manchester City’s methods.”
Manchester City’s Chief Executive Alistair Mackintosh says:
”In recent years our Academy has been extremely successful, producing players including current first team regulars Michael Johnson, Nedum Onuoha, Stephen Ireland and England international Micah Richards.
“We are proud of our partnership with Thanda Royal Zulu FC and are delighted that Roger and Johan have accepted the invitation to spend time with our Academy and first team coaching staff here in Manchester. They will have the opportunity to see the day to day running of the Academy and extensive access to the club’s coaching and support staff who are keen to pass on their knowledge and expertise.”

Thanda Royal Zulu FC
Thanda Royal Zulu FC is a professional football club in South Africa’s Premier Soccer League (PSL). The club is based in Durban and one of its aims is to develop a sporting and organisational model within South African football. Thanda Royal Zulu FC is also part of a community upliftment program, with one objective being to support and cultivate role models for the youth of KwaZuluNatal.

Manchester City
Manchester City Football Club is an English professional football club, formed in 1894. It is based in the city of Manchester and a member of the English Premier League. In August 2007, Dr. Thaksin Shinawatra the former Thai Prime Minister completed a takeover of the club and moved swiftly to appoint Sven-Goran Eriksson as Manager. The club is currently in fourth place in the Premier League, enjoying its best start to a season for many years.
